1. Miele CM6360
Type: Super automatic
- Dimensions (LxWxH): 16.8 x 9.9 x 14.1 inches
- Water tank capacity: 44 ounces
- Design: Countertop
My overall favorite is the new-and-improved Miele CM6360, thanks to its nice balance between convenience and affordability. An update to a perennial favorite, the CM6350, I was immediately impressed by its rich and aromatic coffees and specialty drinks – all at the touch of a button (2).
What I loved about this machine was that Miele included just the right selection of features. It delivers everything I expect from a super-automatic espresso machine without the unnecessary bells and whistles that can jack up the price.
In fact, it goes above and beyond the average espresso machine because you can also brew a full 8-cup pot of coffee.
It has a relatively large footprint, but the modern boxy design makes it easy to fit in any kitchen or office. And let’s not forget that it includes a built-in grinder that holds a half-pound of coffee beans.
My only size-related complaint is that the water reservoir is relatively small, at just 44 ounces. I found myself refilling it almost daily.
This coffee maker allows for up to eight user profiles, each of which can be customized with specific drink preferences – like pre-infusion time, temperature, and milk and coffee volumes. Programming is easy using the intuitive display or via a WiFi connection.
If you’re half of a couple, you’ll especially love the Miele One Touch for Two function, found in most of the brand’s higher-end models. It allows you to brew two coffee drinks simultaneously.
Any extras?
The Miele CM 6360 includes a separate glass milk carafe that can be stored in the fridge when not in use. Though not the sleekest way to integrate a frothing system, it’s certainly practical. It minimizes waste and is easy to keep clean, with automatic sterilization doing most of the work.
2. Miele CM5300
Type: Super automatic
- Dimensions (LxWxH): 18.2 x 9.5 x 14.25 inches
- Water tank capacity: 44 ounces
- Design: Countertop
The Miele CM5300 is the smallest and least expensive coffee system the brand makes, but don’t let that fool you into thinking it’s not capable. It still delivers a perfectly customized latte macchiato – or any favorite – at the press of a button.
The CM 5300 will fit nicely in any size kitchen with its more petite frame. At 9.5 inches wide, it’s nearly as compact as many standard coffee machines, even with a built-in grinder and bean container. At just over 14 inches high, I found it slid nicely under my upper cupboards.
I expected the low price and smaller footprint would translate to a lack of features, but testing this machine quickly proved my assumption wrong. The only obvious shortfalls I noted were a lack of hot water tap, no Wifi connectivity, and no user profiles – things that many of us can easily do without.
It still includes a built-in grinder (and a bypass doser for ground coffee) and the option to totally customize your drink, including temperature and volume.
The CM5300 uses the same milk siphon system and automatic cleaning as the higher-end coffee makers, but the milk carafe is not included. Instead, you put the siphon tube in any milk vessel you want, which I actually found more convenient as the members of my household have different milk preferences.
3. Miele CM6160
Type: Super automatic
- Dimensions (LxWxH): 16.75 x 10 x 14 inches
- Water tank capacity: 62 ounces
- Design: Countertop
The Miele CM6160 is quite similar to my top pick, the CM6360, with the same dimensions, water reservoir, and bean hopper. It has the same built-in grinder, display, and programmable options. It’s marginally less expensive, thanks to a few small sacrifices.
It lacks a milk carafe and a water tap, and rather than an active cup warmer up top, it has a passively heated surface. It has four user profiles rather than eight. I think of it as a cross between the 6350 and the 5300 – a middle ground that I suspect many consumers will appreciate.
For such an affordable option, the CM6150 has several excellent features that I think warrant its designation as easiest to use, particularly when it comes to cleaning and maintenance. The milk siphon system includes an automatic cleaning cycle. There are automated reminders and programs for more thorough cleaning and descaling, and the brew group is removable for easy rinsing.
How to Choose the Best Miele Coffee Machine in 2026
Most Miele models, the countertop coffee machines in particular, are admittedly quite similar, which can make it hard to know which is right for you. However, there are a few criteria that distinguish each coffee maker. In this buyer’s guide, I’ll walk through some of these unique features to help you make a perfect choice.
Consider the size and design of your kitchen
The obvious place to start is to think about where your Miele machine will live in your kitchen. If you’re renovating or building from scratch — and have the funds — you have an excellent opportunity to add a built-in coffee maker. The upfront cost may be high, but real coffee lovers will get their money’s worth.
On the other hand, if your kitchen is already set, it might be harder to find the right location for a built-in model, not to mention the installation expense. In this case, a Miele countertop coffee machine makes more sense.
If you plan to fit it under your upper cupboards, be sure to opt for a shorter coffee maker. This is especially true for heavy users needing frequent access to the bean hopper and water reservoir. If you want to take advantage of the top cup warmer, budget for that additional space as well.
For reference, most upper cupboards allow 18 inches of clearance, but this isn’t set in stone, so I recommend measuring yours.
What do you like to drink?
Once you know where your Miele live, consider what you want it to serve. Depending on your taste, you can save a lot of money by avoiding features you don’t need. If you don’t often go for a hot milk drink like a latte or cappuccino, you can skip any coffee system with an included milk carafe. This saves money and leaves you with one less accessory to clean.
Most Miele lower-end coffee makers do away with the hot water spout, and to my surprise, they don’t offer a program for hot water. If you often make tea or an Americano, you must decide if you want to pay a bit more for a machine with a water option or if you’re okay using a separate kettle.
If you think you’ll need the hot water daily, I suggest paying for a coffee system with a dedicated spout. It’ll make your mornings more pleasant, and these higher-end models come with a few other bonuses as well.
How many coffee drinkers will it serve?
Are you buying a coffee machine for a household of one, two, four, or more? Maybe you’re looking for something to put in the office break room or serve clients in your small business (3). Each scenario requires a machine with a different capacity, so it’s essential to estimate how much use you expect it to get.
One nice perk of all Miele coffee machines is their ability to make two drinks at a time, effectively doubling capacity in any scenario.
The first thing to take into account is the size of the water reservoir. If you’re regularly serving a crowd, it will be a hassle to refill the tank constantly, so opt for one of the larger options. To a lesser extent, you should also think about the size of the bean hopper.
I think Miele coffee makers excel in their degree of programmability, so it’s also worth thinking about programmable user profiles and how many you’ll need. This is even more important if your users have varying tastes in coffee. If each new drink demands a complete reset of settings, it is probably more convenient to get a coffee system that allows everyone to have their own profile.
The Verdict
If you’re after a super-automatic coffee maker, there’s a good chance one of the models in Miele’s popular lineup will meet your needs. Each sleek and stylish brewer offers tons of customizable options and delivers impeccable coffee shop style drinks at the touch of a button.
My all-around favorite in 2024 is the CM6360. With its compact frame, eight programmable user profiles, detachable milk carafe, and a host of other features, it will satisfy any coffee lover on the hunt for a convenient and delicious brew.
FAQs
A bean-to-cup coffee machine includes a built-in grinder. It gets its name because you add coffee beans to the machine and receive a brewed cup of coffee in exchange. You don’t need ground coffee. Most bean-to-cup brewers are espresso machines, but they can be coffee makers as well. Many include a milk frothing system.
A plumbed coffee machine (like this) connects directly to your home’s water line. So instead of drawing water from an onboard water tank, it draws water straight from your plumbing. This can be very convenient because it avoids refilling the water reservoir, but it does make it difficult to move your coffee maker if you reorganize your kitchen. A plumbed coffee machine also typically includes drainage from the drip tray.
The best coffee machine depends on your specific needs. You can find some of my favorites in my round of up of the best drip coffee makers. For guaranteed coffee quality, choose a brewer with an SCA certification. For an affordable and reliable pick, try a Capresso or Cuisinart machine. Popular brands for super-automatic espresso machines include Jura, Philips, DeLonhgi, and Gaggia.
