What Is Honey Almond Milk Flat White?
The Honey Almond Milk Flat White is one of our favorite Starbucks coffee drinks – a sweet and creamy way to kick off your morning. It’s a perfect choice if you’re looking for a dairy-free option for your daily cup of coffee.
The Starbucks recipe combines ristretto shots of their Blonde Espresso Roast, steamed almondmilk, and pumps of “Honey Blend” – a concoction of honey, water, natural flavors, potassium sorbate, xanthan gum, and citric acid that is presumably cheaper and easier to handle than honey (1). But don’t worry, our easy recipe uses the real thing.
Note that there is also an Almond Milk Honey Flat White, which is the same drink but uses the Signature Espresso Roast instead of the Blonde Roast.
The Honey Almond Flat White is suitable for a dairy-free or gluten-free diet, but keep in mind that it isn’t vegan due to the honey. Vegan coffee lovers might prefer the Iced Brown Sugar Oatmilk Shaken Espresso instead.

What Is A Flat White?
A flat white is an espresso-and-milk drink with roots in either Australia or New Zealand, depending on who you ask (2). Like a latte, the perfect flat white combines espresso with steamed milk and very little foam. However, it uses less milk than a latte, so it has a more intense coffee flavor. It’s a great choice if you enjoy the creamy mouthfeel of a milky latte but want to taste more of the espresso.
Try making an iced flat white as a refreshingly coffee-forward summer treat on a hot day.
Blonde Espresso Roast
Starbucks uses their popular Blonde Roast Espresso in their Almond Honey Flat White ingredients. It’s a 100% Arabica blend of Latin American and East African coffee beans. Though “blonde” often implies a light roast, these beans are closer to a medium and features flavors of ripe apple and bittersweet chocolate.
You can buy a bag of Blonde Espresso whole beans to grind and brew if you want to make an exact copycat recipe. Alternatively, use your favorite medium roast blend for a good approximation of this coffee drink at home.
How To Make A Starbucks Honey Almondmilk Flat White
The Honey and Almondmilk Flat White is super easy to make in the comfort of your own home, as you would expect for a recipe with only three ingredients. Learn how to make a delicious honey flat white at home with this easy recipe.
Step 1: Add Honey To A Mug
Pour 2 teaspoons of honey into a 12-ounce coffee mug.
Pro tip: Warm the mug using hot water before adding the honey. It will be easier to dissolve hot honey in the espresso, and it will keep your coffee warmer for longer.
Step 2: Pull The Espresso Shots
Use an espresso machine to pull a double shot of espresso into the mug with honey – or into a small glass first if your mug doesn’t fit. Start with 20 grams of finely ground coffee and aim for 40 grams of espresso.
Use a Moka pot, French press, or Aeropress to make coffee if you don’t have an espresso machine. Brew using a higher ratio of coffee than normal, and aim for about 2 ounces.
Pro tip: Experiment with different coffee beans to subtly alter the flavors of this drink. A darker roast will give you a drink akin to the Almondmilk Honey Flat White. A lighter roast will make a brighter, fruitier coffee. Or use decaf if you want to enjoy an evening treat.
Step 3: Steam The Almond Milk
Use the steam wand of your espresso machine to steam the almond milk until it reaches a silky-smooth consistency. It should be creamy like wet paint more than airy and foamy. If you don’t have a steam wand, you can use a milk frother instead. It will still be delicious but won’t have quite the same texture as properly steamed almondmilk.
Pro tip: You can also froth the milk using a French press. Just add warmed milk to the French press, then move the plunger vigorously up and down for up to a minute to incorporate air and make foamed milk.
Step 4: Put It All Together
Add the steamed almond milk to the mug of espresso and honey. If you have the skills, pour a latte art design.
Pro tip: This drink needs no garnish, but you could add a dusting of cinnamon if you feel it warrants something special.
Bonus: How To Make An Iced Honey Almondmilk Flat White
Combine the brewed espresso and honey, stirring to dissolve the honey while cooling the liquid. Pour the sweetened espresso over ice in a chilled glass. Top with almond milk, which you can be frothed but doesn’t need to be.
Final Thoughts
Milk-based espresso drinks are both simple and complicated. This Honey Almondmilk Flat White recipe requires less steps and fewer ingredients. But the skills to properly pull an espresso shot and steam milk only develop with practice.
Luckily, the pairing of sweet honey and nutty almond milk means this drink will be delicious no matter what, even while you’re still mastering the techniques. So try it, and let us know what you think in the comments below!
