Two-way coffee makers come in all shapes and sizes. Some dual coffee makers allow you to brew espresso and coffee, some brew full carafes and single servings, and some brew hot and cold coffees. I am impressed to say that some even do all the above – successfully!

HOW WE TESTED THE COFFEE MAKERS

Here are eight dual brew coffee makers of all styles I am happy to recommend.

Best Overall

1. Ninja CFP307 DualBrew Pro

  • Brews: Single-serve (pods and grounds), carafe, iced coffee, specialty drinks, tea

  • Carafe type: Glass
  • Capacity: 12 cups
  • Dimensions: 11.39 x 9.12 x 15.54 inches

DualBrew is really a misnomer for this new model from Ninja; and I was amazed to see that it actually brews much more than two types of coffee! Do you want a full carafe or a single cup of coffee? What about a frothy cappuccino or an iced coffee? Do you prefer freshly ground coffee or coffee pods?

One thing is for sure, your coffee routine will never be boring with the Ninja DualBrew Pro, our top pick due to its incredible versatility.

The DualBrew Pro brews four styles of coffee – Classic, Rich, Over Ice, and Specialty – which you can prepare using either Keurig Cups or ground coffee. It also dispenses hot water at two different temperatures for tea.

I particularly loved the Specialty setting, which yields a strong shot of coffee similar to espresso. And, yes, I’m guilty of leaning towards espresso even in my black coffee standards. But the DUalBrew Pro does it well, so why not stress it out in this review. This brewer also includes a fold-away milk frother, so I could turn that specialty coffee into a frothy cappuccino. Another big plus for me.

If you’re brewing with Kcups, you can choose between four cup sizes, from 6 ounces to 12 ounces. We’re not fans of Kcups, but we had to test them for you. We found that the flavor got a little dilute with the larger sizes, so consider using the Rich setting. With ground coffee, you can brew nine different sizes (all equally flavorful), from a small cup to a full pot of coffee.

The 60-ounce water reservoir is not just removable for easy filling; it’s movable, too! It can sit at the side or the back of the machine. Our team members with limited counter space were quick to comment on how much they appreciated this design flexibility. And I agree.

If you love the sound of this machine but want to explore more Ninja coffee makers before you commit, check out our Ninja review roundup.

Pros:

  • Most versatile option
  • Only coffee maker with milk frother
  • Movable water reservoir

Cons:

  • Expensive
  • Most plastic construction
Runner Up

2. Hamilton Beach FlexBrew Trio

  • Brews: Single-serve (pods and grounds), carafe

  • Carafe type: Thermal
  • Capacity: 10 cups
  • Dimensions: 13.6 x 14.5 x 15.13 inches

No products found.

Hamilton Beach’s FlexBrew line is super-popular with consumers. It combines affordable prices with well-built machines, and (you guessed it!) plenty of flexibility when it comes to brewing possibilities.

This particular model offers you the option of choosing a glass or thermal carafe, so I tried both, and the thermal carafe was the hands-down winner. It’s the only way to avoid that slightly burnt flavor of coffee that’s been sitting on a hot plate. Plus, it’s virtually indestructible and only costs a few extra bucks. So, I’d say, go for the extra buck option.

With the 49976 FlexBrew, you can brew a 10-cup carafe or a single serving of up to 10 ounces. I definitely enjoyed the most flavorful coffees when brewing with freshly ground beans, but you can also use a K-Cup-style coffee pod for convenience. The drip tray is removable if you need to fit a taller travel mug. As I said, this machine is known for flexibility.

The flexibility extends to its programming as well. With the Easy-Touch system, it only took us a few minutes to figure out how to adjust coffee strength and set the timer to brew coffee on the carafe side.

Pros:

  • Thermal carafe option
  • Easy to program
  • Option for ground coffee or coffee pods

Cons:

  • Mostly plastic
  • Not very aesthetic
Best for coffee and espresso

3. De’Longhi BCO430 Combination Machine

  • Brews: Carafes, espresso, milk-based specialty drinks

  • Carafe type: Glass
  • Capacity: 10 cups
  • Dimensions: 14.5 x 11 x 12.8 inches

No products found.

The De’Longhi BCO430 is one of few machines that gives you the freedom to explore coffee as well as espresso. Just remember not to use the same grind size on both sides!

The journey into the world of espresso is a rewarding one. When you become intimate with espresso, you become intimate with coffee.

This machine doesn’t just make a strong shot of coffee like some of the others; it makes real-deal espresso using a 15-bar pump and a patented system that enhances flavors and aroma during extraction (1). I tested it with medium and dark roast coffees and found the shots to be sweet, robust, and topped with a thick layer of crema – just as you expect from any De’Longhi espresso machine.

The manual steam wand is easy to use thanks to a froth-assisting cover. And this I love, because I also love milky drinks. While espresso purists might scoff, the non-professional baristas on our team loved that it only took minutes to master the basics of steaming milk for lattes and cappuccinos.

The drip side of this machine is no slouch either, with full programmability. Set it to brew on a timer, customize your coffee’s strength, and program the automatic shutoff mode. There’s even a dual heating system so you can make coffee and espresso simultaneously. Red-eye coffee, anyone?

Pros:

  • Makes true espresso
  • Steam wand included for frothy drinks
  • Fully programmable

Cons:

  • Takes some skill to master
  • Large
Best For K-Cups

4. Keurig K-Duo Coffee Maker Plus

  • Brews: Single-serve (K-Cups and grounds), carafe

  • Carafe type: Thermal
  • Capacity: 12 cups
  • Dimensions: 15.9 x 7.7 x 14.9 inches

No products found.

Keurig is most famous for its single-serve coffee machines, but they clearly couldn’t ignore the growing popularity of dual coffee machines. If I had to choose, my preferred model would be the Keurig K-Duo Plus coffee maker, which is a worthwhile step up from the K-Duo. So we gave the K-Duo Plus a round of tests with our home testers.

Keurig k-duo on the kitchen counter next to a house plant

The testers consistently praised its space-saving design. It’s less than 8 inches wide, and the 60-ounce water tank can be positioned on either side or at the back. The reservoir is compatible with Keurig water filters, which will improve the quality of your brewing water and the flavor of your coffee.

You can enjoy your coffee in single servings of 6, 8, 10, or 12 ounces, or you can brew up to 12 cups in a carafe. A gold tone coffee filter basket is included for carafe brewing, and you can use either Kcups or ground coffee when brewing a cup at a time.

In our taste tests, brewing with ground coffee yielded better flavor than K-Cups, especially in the larger serving sizes.

The K-Duo Plus has a convenient pause-and-serve function so you can enjoy a cup of joe before the rest of the carafe is ready. There are also options for brewing on a timer and adjusting coffee strength. The 5-minute auto-off is a nice feature for energy efficiency.

One criticism of this brewer is that the brew water temperature was relatively cool. In our tests, it was usually around 185 F, well under the 195 – 205 F recommended by the Specialty Coffee Association (2). So this may not be the one for you if you like your freshly brewed coffee piping hot.If you fancy having a Keurig on your countertop, we’ve rounded up more of the best Keurigs.

Pros:

  • Very easy to use
  • Compact footprint
  • Movable water reservoir

Cons:

  • Large sizes taste weak when brewed with Keurig cups
  • Water temperature is low
Best For Coffee Geeks

5. Goat Story Gina Smart Brewer

  • Brews: Pour over, immersion, slow-drip cold brew

  • Carafe type: Glass
  • Capacity: 5 cups
  • Dimensions: 5.9 x 6.7 x 13.8 inches

The Gina Smart Brewer by Goat Story is the only non-automatic coffee machine on this list. This hands-on brewer takes a bit more skill to operate, but the rewards are well worth the effort. Full disclosure: this is my personal choice on this list. If you’re buying expensive specialty coffee beans, this coffee maker is the perfect way to brew them (3).

I think the Gina is a solid piece of coffee gear. It’s aesthetic and has a wide variety of coffee brewing capabilities.

The Goat Story Gina is a 3-in-1 brewer. You can use it as a classic pour over cone, as an immersion brewer similar to a French press, and as a slow-drip cold brew maker. I am particularly impressed with its ability to brew light roasts, something notoriously difficult for cheaper automatic machines. I used it to tease some incredible flavors out of single-origin Kenyan beans.

Though there is a bit of a learning curve, the built-in smart scale and associated Gina app work together to make it as easy as possible. The app guides you through the process for whichever brew method you choose, helping you weigh the beans, master the coffee-to-water ratio, and perfect the pour rate (4).

The slow-drip cold brew function was another big selling point for me. If you’ve never used the slow-drip, it will change everything you thought you knew about cold brew. It pairs the smoothness of a standard cold brew with the flavor complexity of a pour over.

Pros:

  • Three unique brewing methods
  • Built-in smart scale and helpful app
  • Beautiful stainless steel, ceramic, and glass design

Cons:

  • Expensive
  • Takes practice to master
Best for Iced Coffee

6. Cuisinart SS-16 Coffee Center

  • Brews: Single-serve (pod and grounds), carafe, iced coffee

  • Carafe type: Glass
  • Capacity: 12 cups
  • Dimensions: 10.88 x 10.13 x 16.25 inches

No products found.

The Cuisinart Coffee Center has a few user-friendly features that caught our attention, but it was the delicious iced coffee that landed it on this list. While this brewer can’t match the versatility of the Ninja top pick, our taste testers actually preferred Cuisinart’s Over Ice setting. And I agree with them: cuisinart’s had a bolder flavor that didn’t fade as the ice melted.

Cuisinart SS-16 control board closeup

The single-serve side of this coffee maker brews six different sizes (4, 6, 8, 10, 12 oz, and Over Ice). The Over Ice setting brews an extra bold and concentrated shot designed to be diluted by ice. You can brew with K-Cup pods and ground coffee, using the included refillable K-Cup. I highly recommend the latter when making coffee over ice, as it allows a higher coffee dose.

The most impressive feature when brewing a full carafe of coffee is the patented ExtremeBrew technology. I don’t know if I’d call it “extreme,” but it does brew coffee much faster than average. I clocked it at just 7 minutes from turn-on to a full carafe during testing. The adjustable hot-plate temperature was a welcome surprise, great to keep coffee warm while avoiding unpleasant burnt flavors.

The SS-16, of course, has all the other functions you expect at the price point – a 24-hour brew timer, adjustable coffee strength, auto-off, and self-cleaning.

Pros:

  • Delicious rich coffee over ice
  • Easy to use
  • Brews a full carafe in 7 minutes

Cons:

  • Awkward to refill the water tank
  • Expensive
Best Dual Carafe Brewer

7. CucinaPro Double Brewer Station

  • Brews: Carafes

  • Carafe type: Glass
  • Capacity: 2 x 12 cups
  • Dimensions: 16 x 17 x 23 inches

No products found.

The CucinaPro Double Coffee Brewer Station is essentially two standard drip coffee makers in one. It has two water reservoirs, each with a water-level viewing window. Moreover, it has two hot plates, two 12-cup glass carafes, two filter baskets, and two brewing switches. It even comes with two coffee scoops.

So why not just buy two brewers? This double option will save you both space and money.

CucinaPro Double Coffee Station opened and unpacked
cucina pro brew basket closeup

The CucinaPro double brewer is a great choice for homes or offices where not everyone has the same taste in coffee. A friend of mine has been using it at the office to brew a pot of decaf and a pot of regular coffee at the same time (5). So I had to test its duality with our team members. My safe conclusion: you could just as easily use it to satisfy lovers of dark roasts and light roasts.

It’s definitely larger than a standard coffee maker, but that’s to be expected. The important comparison is that it’s smaller than two standard coffee makers. Even so, make sure you measure your space before you buy. After seeing it on our testing counter, I knew it definitely wouldn’t fit in my kitchen.

The main downside to this model is that it isn’t programmable. You can’t set it to brew on a timer, and the only way to choose your coffee’s boldness is to change the amount of coffee you add. We found it brewed a pretty flavorful cup just with the standard recipe, but consider increasing the coffee-to-water ratio for lighter roasts.

Pros:

  • Only option that brews two full carafes
  • Space-saving design versus two brewers
  • Affordable price

Cons:

  • No programmability
  • Only brews one style of coffee
Budget Pick

8. Hamilton Beach Two-Way Brewer

  • Brews: Single-serve (grounds only), carafe

  • Carafe type: Glass
  • Capacity: 12 cups
  • Dimensions: 14 x 15.5 x 11.75 inches

No products found.

The Hamilton Beach 49933 Two-Way Brewer packs a lot of handy features into a compact machine that is kind to your wallet. Made of BPA-free plastic with attractive stainless steel accents, it’s available in black or white, both of which have an elegant appearance. I never would’ve guessed this was a budget coffee maker just by looking at it.

This machine can brew drip coffee into a 12-cup glass coffee pot or use fresh grounds to make a single cup of delicious coffee. Unlike the Hamilton Beach FlexBrew, it’s not compatible with Kcups. This is a conscious decision by the brand to give you more flexibility in choosing your coffee and avoid the environmental impact of disposable pods (6).

The Hamilton Beach Two-Way Brewer made it to Home Brews Coffee’ list of the best coffee makers with a timer, as it offers a lot of programmability for such a low-priced model. I found the programming options convenient and intuitive. There’s a 24-hour brew timer, a pause-and-serve feature, and you can choose between regular and bold strength. This was also one of the speediest coffee makers we tested, always less than 10 minutes to brew a full 12 cups of coffee.

Pros:

  • Great value for money
  • Fast brew time
  • Lots of programmable features

Cons:

  • Not compatible with K-Cups
  • Single-serve side splatters

How We Tested The Top Dual Coffee Makers

Testing a dual coffee maker requires twice as much brewing as testing a regular coffee maker, so the Home Brews Coffee team was in a state of heavy caffeination while making this list. Nevertheless, we are confident in our picks thanks to this protocol.

We tested each machine in all its brewing modes. Depending on the model, that includes brewing a full carafe, a single serving, an iced coffee, cold brew, espresso, and/or a specialty coffee. For pod-compatible machines, we tested fresh coffee grounds and coffee pods.

The results of every test were weighed against the price of the brewer when composing the final list. A cheap machine that’s missing a few features can still be a great value buy.

Quantitative Tests

Quantitative testing was done to make it easy to compare the machines directly. For each brewer, we measured brew water temperature, heat-up time, and total brew time for various sizes.

Qualitative Tests

Qualitative testing is a bit more subjective, so we had multiple testers report on each category.

We rated each machine on the availability of convenience features like adjustable brew strength, programmable timing, automatic shut-off, and brew pause. We also considered build quality and the overall feel of using the machine – how the controls are laid out, how easy it is to clean, and how sturdy it feels.

Finally, we conducted blind taste tests. We used (at minimum) the same medium roast coffee or K-Cup for every machine and the same coffee-to-water ratio. We also had home testers report on their success or lack thereof with other roast levels.

What Is A Dual Coffee Maker?

It’s worth stopping to define a dual coffee maker because the category is very broad. It is any coffee machine that can brew two different types of coffee or two different quantities. The most common dual coffee makers can brew a carafe of coffee or a single cup. Others may brew filter coffee and espresso or hot coffee and cold coffee and tea, for example.

The major advantage of using a dual coffee maker is that it generally costs less than buying two separate coffee makers to meet different coffee preferences. It also takes up less space, a win for any coffee lover with a small kitchen.

How To Choose The Best Combination Coffee Maker In 2026

This buying guide will walk you through which questions to consider and what features to watch out for when choosing the best duo coffee maker for you. As I just said, it’s a very broad category of coffee machines, so it’s important to consider your specific needs when purchasing.

the best dual coffee maker

The first thing to consider is the type of coffee you prefer, which will dictate the style of machine to buy. Do you want the option to brew a single serving or a whole carafe? Do you want to make espresso and coffee? Do you want cold brew or iced tea? All of the above? Make a list of how you enjoy coffee, and use it as a starting point for narrowing down your options.

is there a coffee machine that uses pods and ground coffee?

Some dual coffee makers rely on ground coffee for both brewing methods, whereas others need K-Cups. And yes, there are some, like Cuisinart’s machine on our list, that use both. A note from our editors: coffee capsules are quick and practical, but they contain small doses of stale coffee. They are also expensive in the long run, and worst of all, have a terrible environmental footprint.

It’s important to remember that quality (not convenience) is king for great coffee. While we’ve included some pod machines here, we strongly recommend using a refillable Keurig or pod filter instead of the single-use capsules. That way, you can use fresh grounds, save money, and enjoy a more eco-friendly cup of coffee (7).

Is customization important to you?

Do you enjoy pressing a button and waiting for your usual cup of joe to appear? If so, there is no point in spending more money on a dual coffee brewer with many customizable options or manual functions. On the other hand, if you enjoy being able to tweak your coffee strength, adjust brew temperature, or play with variables like flow rate, we’ve got some machines ready to deliver your perfect cup.

Should You Choose A Thermal Or Glass Carafe?

Short answer? We’ll always be on the thermal squad. Not only are stainless-steel carafes more durable than the glass alternatives, but they are also perfect for keeping your coffee hot for longer without burning it on a hot plate or wasting electricity (8).

Here’s where we listed and reviewed the best coffee makers with a thermal carafe

But if keeping your coffee hot is not a concern because a full carafe hardly lasts 10 minutes in your home or office, a glass carafe is a fine (and more economical) choice. Some of the coffee makers that we’ve included are available with both. Take your pick.

How much space do you have?

The best combination coffee maker will save valuable space on your countertop by performing the functions of two machines in one. That doesn’t mean, though, that some of these bad boys aren’t bulky. Be sure to check the dimensions to avoid unpleasant surprises.

The Verdict

Our best dual brew coffee maker this year is the incredibly versatile Ninja DualBrew Pro. In fact, this brewer does so much that calling it a dual coffee maker hardly does it justice. Not only can you make carafes and single-serve cups, but you can also brew iced coffee, iced tea, and even frothy milk drinks like a cappuccino.

However, if you’re only a coffee drinker and would rather save some cash, opt for our top budget pick, the Hamilton Beach Two-Way Brewer. This fully programmable coffee maker can brew a delicious carafe or single cup and will hardly put a dent in your bank account.

FAQs

No, most dual coffee makers don’t come with grinders. You must purchase a separate burr grinder or resort to pre-ground coffee. The Cuisinart SS-GB1C is a rare exception, but we don’t recommend it because it uses a blade grinder rather than a burr grinder.

A dual coffee maker should last as long as a regular coffee maker, on the order of 3 to 5 years for a mid-range model. You can extend that lifetime with regular cleaning and maintenance and by using filtered water. A manual dual coffee maker, like the Goat Story Gina, will last indefinitely if you don’t break it through mishandling.

The best coffee maker on the market now, according to our testing, is the Technivorm Moccamaster. These machines are handmade in the Netherlands and are designed to brew perfect cups of coffee, which is why they are certified by the Specialty Coffee Association.

The difference between drip coffee and espresso is that drip coffee is brewed slowly by water trickling through coarsely ground coffee beans, whereas espresso is brewed quickly under high pressure using finely ground coffee. As a result, espresso has a more intense flavor and heavier body and is usually consumed in smaller quantities.

Bold coffee, in the context of a programmable coffee maker, is coffee that is brewed at a slower rate, so you get more extraction and a stronger brew. When shopping for coffee beans, “bold” often refers to a darker roast with a more pronounced flavor.
