BEST COFFEE APPS: 7 APPS TO HELP YOU DRINK BETTER COFFEE
Whether you’re a coffee newbie or a seasoned expert, the right coffee app can take your brew to the next level!

Everything you need to create a great cup of coffee is found in the real world, so why would you need a coffee app? As it turns out, there are plenty of reasons!
Coffee apps are fantastic for finding new recipes, tasting and tracking your favorite beans, or just enjoying a useful timer. In this article, I’ll tell you about my favorite coffee apps for iPhone and Android – the ones I go back to time and again.
What Are The Best Coffee Apps In 2026?
Coffee apps cover a wide range of functions, from practical timers and recipe builders to detailed journals. I’ve attempted to offer a nice diversity here, so you can try one or all of the apps below, depending on your needs.
Note: I haven’t covered branded apps that connect to a smart coffee maker or other specific products.
1. Filtru – Best Overall
Filtru is my favorite all-arounder for the home barista. It gives you a great overview of coffee brewing without going into so much detail that it’s overwhelming. It’s a coffee recipe app, brew guide, journal, and timer. If you only have the patience for one coffee app, this is my pick.
Select your brewing method from the home screen and you’re given the Filtru recipe. You can read the equipment needed – you’re going to need a coffee scale – plus all of the steps involved. Once you press play, you’ll be guided through the recipe. A visual aid shows you how much water you should be pouring in how many seconds, as well as bloom and extraction time.
Alternatively, you can add your own recipe from scratch and use this as a record-keeping tool. The app even calculates an estimated strength and extraction based on your input. If you have a Bluetooth-enabled coffee scale, you can connect it for real-time feedback on your pouring technique and flow rate.
The “discover” page lets you buy coffee, explore recipes from the community, or read brew guides from coffee celebs.
Available for iOS only.

2. Brew Timer – Best For Discovery
Brew Timer works similarly to Filtru but with more flexibility. You can choose between 14 different brew methods or create a custom recipe – the most of any app here.
Start with a professional recipe or one shared by the community. You’ll get the recipe outline, where you can quickly adjust quantities using a slider. The app guides you through the recipe, and I like that it uses audio and visual cues, so you can fully focus on your coffee.
You’ll also get coffee brewing tips, such as suggesting you adjust the grind if your brew time doesn’t match the recipe.
One thing I love about this coffee brewing app is how easy it is to create your own playable recipe. If you’ve found a recipe that’s almost right, you can simply clone it and adjust the parts that need tweaking. Or you can create something fresh from scratch.
There’s an option to share your creations with the Brew Timer community of coffee lovers. So if you think you have the best Hario V60 recipe, now is your chance to prove it!
Available for iOS and Android.

3. Bean Conqueror – Best Coffee Journal App
This one is for the true coffee nerds – or aspiring coffee nerds. I always recommend anyone take basic notes on their coffee-making, but Bean Conqueror lets you take it to the next level.
Bean Conqueror isn’t a recipe app. It’s for recording what you’ve made, with what ingredients, and in what way.
To get started, you need to set up at least one bean, one grinder, and one brew method, and I was pleased with the amount of detail the app lets you add. There are even separate options for inverted and regular Aeropress. And you can always create a custom method if your favorite coffee maker isn’t listed.
The bean page is where things get geeky, in the best way. You can add the obvious, like roast level and date, and the not-so-obvious, like elevation, farmer, and even harvest month.
Once you’ve completed your brew and saved the details, you can optionally upload personal cupping scores. There are 10 qualities (such as brightness and uniformity) to mark, and the results are displayed in a radar graph for easy comparison with other coffees.
Available for iOS and Android.

4. Brew Ratio – Best Single-function App
This app does one thing, and it does it well. As the name suggests, this app is all about getting the perfect brew ratio. It’s clearly intended for filter coffee, as the ratio options range from 1:15 up to the Golden Ratio of 1:18, but I’ve used it for French press and Aeropress as well (1). Just don’t expect guidance for cold brew concentrate or espresso.
Once you’ve selected your desired strength, the calculator spits out how much coffee and water you need, which can be tailored to the number of cups you want to brew.
As much as I always advise measuring coffee by weight for the most accurate and consistent brews, I appreciate that Brew Ratio lets you toggle between grams, ounces, and tablespoons for coffee and grams, fluid ounces, or cups for the water. Not everyone has a coffee scale, but everyone deserves a great cup of joe.
Available for iOS only.

5. FourSix – Best App For Pour Over Brewing
FourSix is a coffee timer app designed specifically to help you brew the 4:6 ratio method pioneered by Tetsu Kasuya to win the 2016 World Brewer’s Cup (2). If that sounds esoteric, don’t worry, this app provided much more flexibility than I expected – while still virtually guaranteeing a great daily coffee.
I loved its simple interface; it feels like it’s targeted at beginners despite its geeky premise. All you need to do is input how much coffee you want, a desired flavor profile, and a brew strength. The FourSix app gives you a recipe and guides you through it. It even shows you a brewing profile so you can see how your choices impact the eventual recipe, which is a neat visual learning tool.
My only complaint is that some fairly basic features, like the ability to rate and take notes about your coffee, are only available in the Pro version.
The app was created for use with the Hario V60, but when I tested it, I had the same success with any conical pour over dripper.
Available for iOS only, but there is a similar concept for Android.

6. Aeromatic – Best For Aeropress
Aeromatic is far and away the best Aeropress recipe app I’ve used. It currently has over 50 recipes uploaded by professional baristas and other industry experts, like Chris Baca and Bluebottle Coffee. Or you can create and upload your own.
Once you’ve chosen a recipe, you’re given step-by-step instructions that scroll in conjunction with a brewing timer. There are even optional video walk-throughs. The amount of detail makes this app equally perfect for an expert or someone who just bought their first Aeropress and isn’t sure where to start.
It also offers some nice extras, like the ability to add notes and track your coffee beans – and you don’t need to upgrade to any sort of Pro version to get them!
Available for Android and iOS.

7. Coffee Dice – Best For Fun
This is the perfect tool for you if you’ve found yourself in a bit of a rut with your AeroPress routine. Inspired by coffee guru James Hoffman’s short-lived coffee dice, this app will shake up (pun fully intended) how you make your morning coffee (3).
All of the variables that go into a brew have been allocated a die, and each side has different options. For example, one die has different brewing temperatures, another has coffee-to-water ratios, and another lists grind and extraction time.
The idea is that when you roll the dice (virtually, in this case), you’re presented with a completely randomized recipe. If it turns out to be a winner, you can save it to recreate later. I said this was just for fun, but it is also a great way to learn how different variables affect your coffee.
Available for iOS only.

Final thoughts
Making a perfect cup of coffee doesn’t need to be complicated, but the more you understand about your brew, the better your odds of success. That’s where coffee apps come in. The best ones make the science behind coffee brewing accessible to anyone, thanks to a pleasant user interface or community sharing. They’re a fantastic resource whether you want to learn the basics or embrace your inner coffee geek.
FAQs
Yes, there are many apps for finding great specialty coffee shops and cafes. I haven’t included any in the list above because they tend to vary regionally, so you should look specifically for your area. Two good ones to check out are European Coffee Trip and Roasters, both available for download in the app store.
The secret of good coffee is hardly a secret at all. Buy freshly roasted, high-quality coffee beans. Grind them right before brewing. Use the appropriate brewing recipe and conditions. Many of the coffee related apps above will help you with that last step, or if you’re a little more low-tech, check out this list of info-packed coffee books.
Yes, you can use a regular kettle for making coffee, particularly for brewing methods like the Aero Press or French press. But I recommend a good gooseneck kettle when making pour-over coffee. This will give you control over the pour that a regular kettle can’t provide.
