Bulletproof coffee drinkers know how important it is to get the right blender to use for making Bulletproof coffee at home. It’s important that it can handle hot liquids like coffee and have enough power to make a smooth emulsion. Here are six blenders I’ve tested and found to be perfect for blending my Bulletproof coffee recipe

BEST OVERALL

1. Blendtec Total Blender Classic

  • Jar material: BPA-free plastic

  • Capacity: 75 oz
  • Power: 1560 Watts
  • Speed settings: 10
  • Warranty: 8 years

My favorite blender for delicious Bulletproof coffee (and everything else, to be honest) is the Blendtec Classic Blender. This commercial-grade machine is the most powerful blender on this list. At 1560 watts, it’ll mix your ingredients into a frothing cup of bulletproof magic in seconds.

In fact, it’s the very blender Bulletproof founder Dave Asprey uses when demonstrating his original recipe.

It features the iconic, easy-to-clean, four-sided blending jar and pleasingly tactile touchpad controls. There are 10 manual speed settings and an additional six pre-set modes. The plastic blending jar can safely handle hot liquids, and it even has a “hot soup” mode.

The Blendtec Classic isn’t cheap, but it’s backed by an 8-year warranty that should ease some of the sticker shock.

Pros:

  • Very powerful
  • Square sides are easy to clean
  • Durable build with long warranty

Cons:

  • Expensive
  • Loud

2. Vitamix E310 Explorian

  • Jar material: Tritan plastic

  • Capacity: 48 oz
  • Power: 1380 Watts
  • Speed settings: 10
  • Warranty: 10 years

Vitamix blenders are well known for their incredible power and durability. If you visit a commercial smoothie bar or restaurant, there’s a good chance they have a Vitamix behind the counter (1).

Vitamix blenders produce an incredibly smooth product and velvety texture.

The Vitamix E310 Explorian is an unbeatable choice if you want a workhorse of a blender. It comes with an industry-leading 10-year warranty, but I doubt you’ll need it. I’ve never known a Vitamix to bite the dust in under a decade. The laser-cut stainless steel blades never seem to dull.

It looks a bit industrial, whether you opt for black, gray, or red. There are no fancy screens or sleek curves here – just basic bombproof knobs and switches.

Vitamix professional blenders tend to be super expensive, but this small 48-ounce model with variable speed control is priced about the same as the Blendtec. I actually prefer its compact size; it’s more practical for making single servings of Bulletproof coffee or other drinks.

Pros:

  • Powerful
  • Built to last
  • Perfect size for one or two coffees

Cons:

  • Expensive
  • Noisy
Best Value for Money

3. Ninja BN701 Professional

  • Jar material: BPA-free plastic

  • Capacity: 72 oz
  • Power: 1400 Watts
  • Speed settings: 4
  • Warranty: 1 year

The Ninja Professional is the perfect blender if you want the power of a Vitamix without the price tag. For about half the cost of the premium brands, you get a 1400-watt motor, three pre-programmed functions, and four manual speed settings.

What’s the catch? The build quality isn’t quite the same. Despite “Professional” in the name, you won’t spot a Ninja blender in a commercial setting, and it only has a 1-year warranty. That said, in my experience, this blender feels sturdy and well-made, and I’ve had consistently good experiences with Ninja coffee gear.

The three pre-set AutoIQ programs are impressive. They aren’t just specific speeds; they actually blend, pulse, and pause in unique ways.

I’ve found the “smoothie” program perfect for making Bulletproof coffee, and I’ve been using the “ice cream” option to work on a recipe for keto coffee ice cream!

Pros:

  • Excellent value for money
  • Convenient pre-set programs
  • Powerful 1400-watt motor

Cons:

  • The loudest blender I tested
  • Too tall for most cupboards
Best Immersion Blender

4. KitchenAid 2-Speed Blender

  • Jar material: BPA-free plastic

  • Capacity: 24 oz
  • Power: 200 Watts
  • Speed settings: 2
  • Warranty: 1 year

I’m a big fan of immersion blenders for Bulletproof coffee. One, I can blend directly in my mug, avoiding the need to do extra dishes. Two, I don’t have to pour my coffee in and out of a blender, a process that inevitably cools it down. Three, they’re very affordable.

A hand blender isn’t nearly as powerful as a countertop model, but I’ve had no trouble creating creamy, emulsified Bulletproof coffee with this KitchenAid 2-Speed blender. Though it’s not hands-off like a standard blender, it only takes 30 seconds to blend my coffee.

This KitchenAid model includes a 24-ounce blending cup, so you can make your coffee right in there and take it to go. Both the cup and the removable blending arm are top-rack dishwasher-safe for easy clean-up.

Just remember that an immersion blender’s kind of like a handheld milk frother cranked up to 11. Make sure you’re using a deep enough mug to blend, or you’ll end up with butter on your ceiling!

Pros:

  • Easy to use and clean
  • Relatively quiet
  • Keeps coffee hotter

Cons:

  • Not as powerful as a traditional blender
  • Only a 1-year warranty

5. Nahida Handheld Frother

  • Power:  n/a
  • Speed settings: 3
  • Warranty: n/a

I generally don’t recommend handheld milk frothers for Bulletproof drinks because they lack the power to properly blend the fats with the hot coffee. However, I will make an exception for this Nahida frother.

It has three speed settings, and the highest (a whopping 14,000 rpm) gets my keto coffee nearly as smooth and creamy as a real blender. In fact, it was so unexpectedly powerful that I sprayed coffee over half my counter on the first attempt when I didn’t submerge it deep enough in my mug. Consider yourself warned.

It’s a great option for camping and road trips. It weighs just 8 ounces and includes three different whisk styles, making it a perfect multi-purpose addition to your travel kit.

I love the rechargeable battery because I hate buying batteries, and a handy indicator light lets you know when it needs charging.

It’s not a particularly durable appliance, nor does it seem to include any warranty. But for around $20, it’s hard to debate the value for money. If you buy it on Amazon, you can easily test drive it for up to 30 days and return it hassle-free.

Pros:

  • Lightweight and portable
  • Rechargeable battery with low-battery indicator
  • Three whisk attachments

Cons:

  • Not made to last
  • Not as powerful as a real blender
Budget Pick

6. Oster Beehive Blender

  • Jar material: Borosilicate glass

  • Capacity: 48 oz
  • Power: 1000 Watts
  • Speed settings: 2
  • Warranty: 10 years

No products found.

It’s not easy to find a good countertop kitchen blender for less than $100, let alone a great one. But Oster somehow makes it happen. While the Oster Beehive Blender isn’t quite as powerful as the Blendtec or Vitamix, it’s about a quarter the price and has more than enough oomph to get your Bulletproof coffee nice and frothy.

You might think that build quality would be sacrificed to keep costs low, but you’d be wrong. Not only is the Oster the only blender on this list with a glass (rather than plastic) blending jar, but the motor has a 10-year warranty!

The only real trade-off is that the Oster doesn’t have as many blender options and features as the fancier machines. It only has two speeds (use the higher one for Bulletproof) and doesn’t have any preset modes.

I have to admit that this blender caught my eye aesthetically because it perfectly matches my Hario Buono kettle—something to keep in mind if you’re building a cohesive-looking coffee bar.

Pros:

  • Amazing value for money
  • Durable build with 10-year warranty
  • Borosilicate glass blending jar

Cons:

  • Not as powerful as the expensive models
  • Only two speed settings

Do I Need A Blender For Bulletproof Coffee?

A high-end blender turns your Bulletproof coffee or butter coffee into a rich and creamy emulsion that you’ll enjoy drinking. Stirring butter and MCT oil into hot coffee might give you the same health benefits, but the texture is greasy and extremely unpalatable.

In my opinion, you need a blender or at least a powerful milk frother. That said, Bulletproof coffee does not require you to crush ice or puree kale, so you might get away with a hand whisk, but you’d need a lot of arm power.

What Type Of Blender Is Best For Bulletproof Coffee?

The most important thing when choosing a blender for coffee is that it is compatible with hot drinks. That means a high-quality plastic or glass blending chamber; cheaper plastic doesn’t handle fats and heat. It also means you should avoid inverted blenders like the Nutribullet or Magic Bullet, which can actually be dangerous when used with hot liquids (2).

That leaves you with two possible types of blenders: countertop and immersion.

I’m a big fan of handheld immersion blenders for Bulletproof coffee. They allow you to blend directly in your mug, which means fewer dishes. Plus, there’s less transferring of the liquid and thus less heat loss. Immersion blenders are also more compact and affordable compared to a countertop blender (3).

Countertop blenders have the advantage of being significantly more powerful, making them a more versatile choice. If you want to use your blender for recipes other than making coffee, a countertop option might be worthwhile. While pricier, they tend to be more durable and backed by long warranties.

How Much Coffee Do You Want To Make?

Consider the capacity when buying a countertop blender, especially if you plan to make a large batch of Bulletproof coffee. Remember that the total capacity (which is what I have listed in the specifications above) does not equal the maximum liquid capacity.

In general, I have found that you shouldn’t exceed half the capacity when blending hot liquids. That means a 48-ounce blender can support up to 24 ounces of hot coffee – enough for about two or three drinks.

Final Thoughts

What is the best blender for Bulletproof coffee? My vote goes to the Blendtec Classic. After extensive testing, this top blender consistently impressed with its power and durability. I enjoyed a delightfully creamy morning coffee every time – not to mention smoothies, soups, and sorbets.

It’s an expensive option, but it’s hugely versatile. And you’ve got that 8-year warranty in your back pocket to ensure you get your money’s worth.

FAQs

Bulletproof coffee is a blend of brewed coffee, grass-fed butter, and MCT Oil (marketed by Bulletproof as Brain Octane Oil). This brain-fueling coffee is a delicious way to add healthy fats to your diet, and there is evidence that it can boost mental performance and help with weight loss for some people.

Yes, you can use coconut oil for Bulletproof coffee. MCT oil is made from coconut oil and provides a more concentrated source of MCTs, but coconut oil is more affordable and can add a pleasant tropical flavor to your coffee drink.

You shouldn’t use an immersion (aka stick or hand) blender for tough jobs like crushing ice, chopping vegetables, or mashing potatoes because it is not as powerful as a countertop blender. You also shouldn’t use the blender in liquids that are still boiling (4).
